Other Recommended Coffeehouses

Charles Ro:

dude you are seriously missing out. the best coffee, hands down, is espresso vivace. 901 e denny in capitol hill. just east of broadway. expect to stand in line. to them, coffee is an art. nothing else is close. herkimer is good. victrola is damn fine. ladro used to be great. and none of them is even in vivace's universe.

Grace Tazewell:

Elliot's Fair Grounds in Norfolk, VA, across from a Starbucks. All the predictable yuppies go to Starbucks, all the really interesting bohemians go to Fair Grounds. Art exhibits, poetry night, open mike music, and great coffee. I am coming to Seattle soon for the first time, and I'll be at Pioneer Square. Wanted to know where the independent coffeehouses are! I am too old for the strictly-student crowd, tho'. I feel this is the only way to see a new city, find its independent coffeehouses (or restaurants if they are small). Thanks for the info!!

Armin:

Cafe Coccinella, 10232 NE 10th Street, Downtown Bellevue (1 block north of Bellevue Square),M-F 7am-5pm, Sat/Sun 9am-5pm, Fine espresso drinks (Vivace coffee! Vivace Roasters), teas, italian sodas, iced caramel and chocolate drinks, french pastries.

Colette:

Zeitgeist Coffee (Seattle)! Lots of tables, lots of light, usually easy to get a table. I used to work upstairs and see the same people working on laptops day in, day out, so it must have a good atmosphere for working, but I also enjoy it for lunch, kicking back with a book after work...

Cafe Zoe, because they have class. Located at 4112 University Way, this cafe has style. The are clean with the nicest people. The architecture is unique and the ambience is warm and inviting. They are the only cafe on the AVE to offer shade grown sustainable coffee. The music is absolutely fabulous soothing the soul and jump starting the brain. They have a reliable wireless network that customers can subscribe to, and Bubble Tea to die for. Their leopard skin couches are already famous, and the blue glow of Cafe Zoe is unmistakable. When you're there for coffee, to have lunch, or just chillin, you can actually hear the people you're speaking with or your own thoughts.

Ciera:

I have fallen in love with the Viennas at Java Bean on Avalon, just down from 35th.

Jonathan:

Espresso-A-Go-Go just south of the Fremont bridge in Seattle. Two important distinctions about this walk up/drive up stand:

  1. Flavor. The coffee that leaves the brewers hand is always of the best medium roast (Lighthouse Coffee) flavor. Drink the best Americano around (hint of cream and suger). No one makes better caramel lattes and the wife can't wait for the Christmas season and the perfect, unmatched egg nog latte.
  2. Consistency. My biggest problem with purchasing coffee is the inconsistency. Gregg, the master barista, mans the stand day in and day out. He carefully crafts his coffee. Each day as I drive away I taste the coffee and feel a sort of deja vu because of the unsurpassed consistency.

Our nickname for the colorful coffee stand is "The Sad Man" mainly because it almost seems like it is painful for him to part with the drink, as so much care has been put into each aliquote. An answer to the clever and tricky trivia of the day saves you a quarter. Buy 9 and get the 10th free! Start your day right. And try to get a smile out of him.
